My dd8 has always had a deeper voice bit it's got worse and worse and she had sore throat few weeks ago and now it's worse than ever. Really deep and she cannot scream or go above a certain pitch.

Hi, I would recommend seeing your GP and asking about a referral to speech therapy. Keeping hydrated (drinking plenty of water) and steam inhalation can help but it would be a good to get it checked out. Hope that's OK.

Could it be viral laryngitis ??

My own DD had this a couple of months ago, though in her case she lost her voice completely for over a week, but it came back deeper & very hoarse - she has a natural deeper, more mature voice for her age, so it getting deeper still was more noticeable & she also had the sore throat to begin with too

According to our GP laryngitis is always viral & paralyses the vocal cords & can take months to fully recover - DD still has the dregs of it now - she's a singer & her singing voice still isn't back to normal yet, her speaking voice took about 5 weeks

Under active thyroid can cause a hoarse voice, but that comes with also rats of other symptoms & is very unlikely in a DC

HTH

Thankyou for the replies
I will call the gp on Mon.
She tries to scream or sing or do anything higher pitched than deep /husky and nothing comes out! She says it hurts too.
It has just got progressively worse.
She also complains of leg pain, probably not connected but....

That sounds very like what happened with DD, ended up with her voice going all together - DD also ended up with aches & pains too - especially leg pain - seems it was some sort of flu virus' but of a nasty one too

We found (& GP agreed) steam inhalations with Friars balsam helped, along with sucking ice/lollies & teaspoons of honey

Hope she's better soon, my DD was so frustrated, she still couldn't speak when she went ba?k to school :(
