Stammering 6yo - reassurance please

My 6 year old son stammers. He has done on and off ever since he learnt to talk, but it used to be quite mild and a lot of people didn't even notice. He's now 6 soon to be 7 and over the last 6 - 8 months it has stopped coming and going and seems to be more entrenched i.e. he isn't having stammer free days/weeks at the moment. It's still not bad, maybe 'moderate' rather than 'mild', and he's very happy, knows he stammers but it doesn't bother him. He's not self conscious and talks to anyone about anything which is wonderful. He's at a very sweet primary school where there is no bullying so he's had no negative experiences there either. He's due to start speech therapy in September. I think what I'm mainly worried about is that when he gets older and moves to a bigger school he might get bullied, and as he gets more self conscious it might start to upset him more. I'm not expecting the speech therapy to 'cure' his stammering, but hope it will give him techniques to feel confident about how to manage it. Does anyone here have experience of stammering? Can you reassure me that the speech therapy will help him improve his fluency?
Thanks
