Urination issues with inguinal hernia

DS (3) has an inguinal hernia, confirmed by u/s and we have a consultant appointment on the 4th august to confirm surgery.
He's been toilet trained pretty reliably since about February. However he's been having regular wee accidents for the past week, without much knowledge that he needs a wee. No pain that he mentioning. I've got a gp appointment tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else has experience'/knowledge of similar?
