Why is 9mo DS a bit yellow?

I'm not terribly worried but DH wanted me to ask some wise Mumsnetters Smile

9mo DS is very healthy and happy - off-the-charts long for his age, although 25th centile for weight - but has times when he has a distinctly yellow tinge to his skin. The sclera of his eyes are white and his poos and wees are fine. Family and friends have commented on it, although nursery haven't mentioned anything and they're very good at mentioning anything out of the ordinary. DM's theory is that they feed him lots of carrots there Hmm although I have heard of carrots turning people a bit orange.

Any ideas, or do you think this is just within DS's normal range of hues?

Has a dr looked at him ever when he has looked this colour?

I would want a doctor to rule out jaundice.

When did this start happening? The carrot theory is possible btw, but if he had this skin tone before weaning then doesn't make logical sense.

He was jaundiced as a newborn but this cleared completely. DH thinks it's been happening sporadically over the past few weeks. No, a doctor hasn't seen him when he's been like this as I think they'd send me packing!

If it was me, I'd get it checked. Can't say anything more really. I posted elsewhere I am generally cautious on health issues.

Why would a doctor send you packing? They would just check him over. That's what they are paid to do.

I had this with my ds when he was 7 months old, thought he was looking slightly yellow so took him to doctors who thought he looked more pale so sent him for a blood test and be was anaemic. Maybe go to doctors to put yours & your dh mind at rest.

are the whites of his eyes yellow?

if so then Id nip to the Gp

My daughter has a limited diet due to medical issues and went yellowish , almost as if she had a tan , more obvious in sunlight and in the creases nad it was too much veg, apparantly even cabbage, carrots butternut sqyash etc cause this.

You can ask for a blood test to check for it,

No I don't recall any other symptoms he just looked a tinge of yellow, he is very fair anyway so was quite hard to tell & at first I thought it was maybe because he was eating alot of carrot purée!
