How serious is this?

Sorry I do know there are much worse illnesses and vomitting and being sleepy/asleep for hours can be 'normal' for a 16 month old when they have a bug.
DS vomitted yesterday afternoon and early evening about 3/4 times. She slept OK ish but I posted last night about her so she was up for a bit. She has slept pretty much all day today and only taken water. She is very drowsy and her temperature is 38.5/39
I don't want to over react and she has no other symptoms but I'm wondering when I should start to seriously worry. Her behaviour and lack of interaction with us has got worse this afternoon and is totally out of character for her.
Any advice at all?? Is it a straightforward vomiting bug?

Does she wake up properly to drink or has she literally been asleep all day?

I would phone nhs24. on another forum one lady has been waiting 3 weeks with a baby with diarrohea and vomiting and A&E will not admit the baby! I would check this out just to be sure.

I would ring out of hours dr to be on the safe side. Hope she's better soon.

Sorry to hear she's being poorly. Please ring your out of hours GP or ring nhs direct, in babies this age they often don't have very specific symptoms so keep giving her lots of fluids, some regular calpol but do get some medical advice this afternoon in RL.

Augusta,

Is she just lacklustre and miserable or is she really failing to interact. As you know, when you are nauseous and feverish, all you want to do is lie still. On the other hand, she should be responding to you and reacting to stimuli. Is her breathing OK and have you undressed her and checked for rashes? Is she crying normally when upset? Can she walk/cruise/crawl (whatever is normal for her) if she has to?

If you are used to your daughter being ill and this is totally different, I would take her straight to A&E, none of the NHS direct stuff. They really cannot give proper advice over the phone. If you are one of those people who is lucky enough to get to 16 months without your child ever really having a meaningful infection, I would at least ask someone with experience to have a look. Generally (unless it is the middle of the night) it is easy to tell a "normally" sick child from one in need of medical attention if you have seen both....

I would be getting her checked out to be honest. Vomiting bugs tend not to present with high temps. They can,of course,but not usually .

May be another infection going on and the vomiting s a symptom.

She needs to be seen today - trust your instincts on this, you are worried so she needs to see a Dr.

I agree that her temp is quite high for a normal vomiting bug - my DS is prone to ear infections and tonsillitis (he has both right now!) and typically presents with the symptoms you've described. Might be best to get her checked out for an infection just in case she does have something that she needs antibiotics for. Wishing her well soon.

My ds, at 18 mnths, was very sleepy with a bad chest infection, he napped on and off all day but I had the doctor check him out in between, he issued antibiotics which kicked in pretty quick. I hope you've had your dd seen or she's made a speedy recovery.

Well it's Tuesday and she's still ill. No more vomiting but diarrhoea. It's not constant but is watery and yellow. She is eating a big and drinking well- water and diarolyte solution. She's trying to play but gets sleepy quickly and looks wobbly on her feet at times. Had drs appointment yesterday but cancelled as she looked better then sadly her bottom exploded again. Better at home than in the surgery. Called drs again this morning and they are getting a nurse to call me.
How long can bugs likd this last ?

It's now Day Six and diarrhoea continues... Dr said yesterday to keep giving liquids, dry toast etc. how much longer can it last and how can I help her get better ??? When do I go back to dr? I don't overreact to illness but this is getting worrying

My dd had diarrhoea for about the same timescale recently. Took her to GP who said they would do nothing about diarrhoea until at least a week had passed as long as she was not dehydrated.

Thank you. She's trying to play and eating bits so I guess we just ride it out. I just feel sorry for her as I can't help other than cuddle and soothe.
