started with a sore eye on friday then noticed a slightly swollen eyelid at the weekend. The upper eyelid is now painful in touch and more swollen. Warmth is about the only thing we've found that is giving her releif. No redness to the the eye of eyelid.
Help dd not happy doesn't want to go to school but I need to be at work!!!

Doped her up on nurofen and hope things are looking better this evening. Have told to go to the school's first aid if the eye gets really sore.

My dd has had something similar on her bottom lid, when I had a look there was a big stye thing, we took her to the dr (OOH as it obviously happened on a saturday) she was given a course of antibiotics oral and drops and she may need a wee op if it keeps returning.

Could be blapharitis. It usually gets better on its own, but it sounds like she has had it nearly a week already, and its getting worse, so you should get it checked out. Maybe take her to the pharmacy and ask their advice before taking her to the GP.

Keep an eye on this. I had wjat sounds similar the other week and it was horrible. Thought wasnt much but ended up at out-of-hours doc at the weekend getting antibiotics for cellulitis. Your DD may not have this, but if in doubt go to the GP

If it is a stye then Chloramphenicol will clear it up. DD had one the other week and it worked a treat. As it is an eye I would always seek medical advice first though.

Agree with fairy queen - go to GP. My daughter had swelling rounded the eye twice and both times it was peri orbital cellulitis which needs urgent treatment with major antibiotics.

Thank for the help, was going to phone the gp but dd texted to say 'it's feeling much better' so hoping it was just a stye and it's coming away now. She'll be home in the next 10 mins for me to see. With cellulitis I thought it was the whole eye swelled dd only had swelling on the upper eye lid.

No, my daughter just had swelling on her upper eye lid. I thought she had just rubbed it and it was a bit sore but when I took her to the GP that day because she had a horrible cough he took one look at it and gave me anti biotics and said if she didn't take them she would have to go to hospital and be on a drip! That was fun with a five year old I can tell you as they tasted absolutely foul.
