Need to get rid of some books - how do i choose?

DD is nearly 2 and a half, she already has quite a few books, and still has lots more in storage from her older sisters. How do i know when she's outgrown the short lift the flap Maisie/ That's Not My.../ touch and feel stuff and i can just give them to charity? She even seems to have ignored Dear Zoo for ages now.

She still likes them very very occaisionally but i personally think she'd get more use out of proper story books as she loves 'Goldilocks and the three bears' (the ladybird version), Axel Sheffler (sp?) books, etc and has done for quite a while now.

Also, if there is a board book and a longer version of a story, like 'The Gingerbread Man'...do i keep them both?

You don't really need us to answer do you? Get a grip and get your ruthless head on, Bumcheek! (and no, ditch the board book version of Gingerbread Man!)

If you're feeling wimpy (I would be over getting rid of books) why not get the older children's books out of storage and replace them with some of the baby stuff. If it's not touched in a few months, you can get rid.

I put some of DS's baby books away, but he did miss some of them so those ones I got out again for a bit and they're now being passed on to his little brother.

Why not take all the board books away, except any that are favourites that get read a lot (that's what I am doing and my son is 2and a half) and pop them all on Ebay as a job lot. Then use to dosh to buy some new ones.

Pass them on to charity, a playgroup or preschool, then you've got a brilliant excuse to go to Amazon, Red House books etc and buy a whole load more! You could keep just a few favourites for sentimental reasons, but it does sound as if your daughter is ready to go on.

My DD is 2.6, and like yours, she's now just getting into longer stories. It's such a relief to leave the basic flaps/textures behind, and move onto something with a bit of narrative, isn't it?

Thanks for answering - sorry it's taken me a while to get back - had lots of things to get on with which was i was being insistent

I think i will do a combination of lots of your answers -
Take away most of the board books, put 'em in storage for the time being, bringing out any suitable ones the twins used to have instead...then in a few weeks i will give 'em away and hope someone else gets as much enjotment out of them as she did.

I was hesitating basically because i wondered if 2 and a half was too young to take away the baby books as i knew a 3 year old who still liked the 'That's not my' series!
