DH driving me mad, help find the title of this book

Really, he's like a dog with a bone.
He remembers reading a book at school but can't remember the title or author
can you help?
It was about people who were segregated into those who live in the country and those who live in the city. They were kept apart by a fence and there were some gladiator type games and one of the characters (a boy) escaped to the other side. DH did mention hollowvision.
If I find out the title, hopefully he will shut up about it

Not convinced it's this, but does the second book in the Tripods series - The City of Gold and Lead sound right?

Jackie, does sound quite similiar, doesn't it?
I will ask DH when he gets home from work
I was thinking it sounded like the Chrsylids by john wyndhom, but apparently it isn't that.

That sounds more promising, doesn't it SamJamsmum.

I was thinking about 'hollowvision' - could that be 'holovision' as in holograms?

I've just read the description and I reckon that's it. I remember reading it at school and being blown away by it. It's odd it's not known more widely as the amazon review says.

samjamsmum, I think you've found it!
Thank you all!
It's The Guardians by John Christopher, I'm sure of it.
Now I can get on with the rest of my day!

We read that at school. Didn't the ones who lived in the country all have something a little bit different, like too many toes or the wrong colour hair?

Just read the amazon review.
I think I'm confusing it with another book.
