Can anyone recommend a nice 'chapter' book for a 4 year old?

dd is 4 and loves her bedtime story - for the first time a couple of weeks ago she picked up Paddington bear and I've been reading a chapter a night. I was surprised that she'd have the stamina to follow it all the way through but she loved it and is now asking for another 'chapter' book for bedtime. She has picked up the faraway tree from the bookshelf so we'll have a crack at that but would like some other ideas.

The Josie SMith books are Lovely. Not sure how mnay of them are in print at the moment. Magdalen Nabb, I think. Social drama. Day to day adventures of a young girl and her neighbours/school friends. I think Josie is about 6 or so.

You could try Rumer Godden 'Miss Happiness and Miss Flower' -absolutely exquisite and she'll still like them years later. Also the other books by her.

Think we went through Milly Molly Mandys at that age - again lasted years.

Also My Naughty Little Sister.

I really would get some modern books too.

Patrick teh party hater by EMily SMith is also Lovely to read out loud to this age. Gentle, like Josie SMith.

My DD (age 4) loves 'My naughty little sister'. She also like some of the Animal Ark book by Lucy Daniels. Anything by Dick King Smith gets her thumbs up too.
DD really enjoys the Magic Tree House books- DH (who does story time) doesn't get on with them, but she likes them.

My DS (just 5) loves Pippi Longstocking, and Danny Fox. I hoped he'd like Arabel's Raven but he didn't - perhaps your DD will have better tase!

Oh I'm so cruel. Sorry. Leave the Rainbow Fairies as long as you possibly can!

My 4 and 5 year olds love Mr Majeka and are currently addicted to Charlie and the Choclate factory. They absolutly love chapter books.
I can't wait for Milly Molly Mandy ( friends have already done this) and the fantastic far away tree series. I also loved Danny Chapion of the world as a kid and so, am looking forward to that too.

However - was warned today, if you want to try dr dolittle, make sure it's a new version. My friend was reading an old version and there was good reason why it was edited....iyswim
Have fun - chapter books are the best!!!
Charlottes Wen and Babe will also be on the list

I like Anna Hibiscus and the sequel, also the chapters are a nice length and like MMM are a series of stand alone stories which works well for us for bedtime.
