So come on, who wants to be in my gang?? I have just seen a trailer for 'the mystery of moonacre' or some such crap and it's made me wonder why they felt the need to change it? And Ioan Grufford as Sir Benjamin? Pffftttt. I loved this book as a child, my mum gave me her copy and I have it all saved for dd to have in a few years but now she has seen the trailer and has asked if we can go and see it, when I just want to wail noooooooooo I will read it to you (I think 4 is maybe a bit young anyhow ) I seem to remember that they made it into a TV series about 10 years ago and screwed it up then too. Why????? So, let the first club meeting commence. If you were to cast this film, who would be in it? I can't work out wether Natascha McElhone as Loveday is brilliant or just wrong. Isn't she meant to be older??

I wanted to be Maria Merryweather on here, but somone took it and posted about 3 post with it - what a waste.

So I have been Marmaduke Scarlet for some while now.

I am sulking because my DD didn't choose it for her ESB exam reading, I had the pages worked out and everything .

She did go as MM to last years book day, so at least that is something .

I'll join! I read it and read it as a child. I had no idea there was a film of it but can't imagine it would be a good idea. The images were just so powerful and stayed with me for years.

I'll join! I loved it so much that when I couldn't find my childhood copy I bought another, and then found the old one. Just so that my DC would be able to read it.

OrmIrian, the newer versions don't have the same pictures! I went through the same (traumatic, but I'm over it now, phew!) thing with Ballet SHoes, I thought I'd lost mine, spent forever trying to find an edition with the same illustrations, only to find mine anyway. I loved the picture I had in mine of Maria's round room. I sooooo wanted it for myself I loved the thought of someone coming iin in the night to tend the fire and leave me a little biscuit...

I love this book too - I was so glad to find it again - though I haven't had to go through the trauma of having my children reject it - they're all boys, so I didn't offer.

I will probably go and see the film, but if it's as bad an adaption as last years film of The Dark Is Rising, then I will be very disappointed indeed.

Silly as it is, one of the things I worry about with ds is that we won't have common interests. I don't have books to pass onto him as he grows up. And if dd rejects the ones I have kept I will be secretly a little sad too

I have three ds's and no dd's, littlelamb, and I suppose I've had to learn about their interests, to a certain extent. But we do have things in common - we all love Top Gear (though I'm the only one that fancies Jeremy Clarkson) and Dr Who (ditto David Tennant)!

On the other hand, they seem to have picked up some of my interests - ds2 loves Mamma Mia almost as much as me! I suppose when you live with someone, things rub off - in both directions.

Oh, I loved this book, and "Linnets and Valerians", and "Henrietta's House".

One of the nicest things about having a bookworm DD is passing on your favourite books.

Mine has just read and adored the whole "The Dark is Rising" sequence, and is a long term Diana Wynne Jones fan.

I am not looking forward to reading Thomas the Tank Engine to DS.

littlelamb I think my love of Maria's round room has clouded my house buying judgement, I am on my second house with round rooms!

in this house DD has a round bedroom (dining room below) and we also have a round bedroom (kitchen below) - dd's room is particularly magical although no fireplace and biscuits.
