Looking for a good joke book

that is not part of a series (ie not Horrid Henry's Jokes or the like). Preferably not too expensive as it is for a stocking filler. Any suggestions . . .

I saw a good one in 'the works' for about £3

Many thanks - will have to get my Mum to have a look, I think there is a Works near her. Any idea of the title?

this is what you need

Looks like it's out of print but there are used copies here. It's a corker.

That's really funny policywonk . . . what started me on this trail was finding my old copy of the Crack a Joke book. Its fab, but a lot of the jokes are rather dated now, was wondering if there was a more modern version. Mind you, that one you've linked to says new edition, so it might be a bit more up to date than mine!

It was great wasn't it. Wish I still had my copy. Is suspect it disintegrated through over-use.

Maybe I should just give dd my copy and explain the 70s jokes.
My other favourite was Professor Branestawm's dictionary - I've still got my copy of that too but all the pages have fallen out, will have to get to work with the sellotape . . .

Aaargh, Professor Branestawm - that rings loud bells but I can't quite remember why!

Anyway, I'm betting you were in the Puffin Club

I never was, not quite sure why though as I was a manic bookworm
