Thank you. Looking on Amazon but it's hard to know which one would be entertaining.

Can I give you a recomendation to avoid this one DH purchased it for DD's 1st christmas. Totally not suitable. Pictures are dull and dreary. Ended up getting her another one last year, in Wilkinsons of all places. It has lift the flaps but isn't babyish. Not at home at the mo so can't tell who it's by. Wilkinsons also had some nice Nativity books too. Of course, this year they'll be the usual tat now I've recomnded them

(And having looked at Amazon, I want the Richard Scarry one now!)

We have that one, Biscuits. Totally disagree with you. We love it and read it on Christmas Eve every year.

ELC is very good, or a Christian book shop.

There is a sweet Dick Bruna (the Miffy chap) one, which I think is out of print but Amazon has a little stock of - it has a press out paper nativity with, as I recall, some particularly nice sheep.

I like Carol Ann Duffy's Another Night Before Christmas, to go with the Clement Clarke Moore classic - but that's for you/much older children. It's a lovely thoughtful thing, a sort of Posy Simmonds meditation on contemporary Christmasing.

Oh, we love the Christian Birmingham edition too LadyG

I can recommend these perennial favourites in our house:

The Greatest Gift

Christmas in Exeter Street

The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey

and

Good King Wenceslas

I love this Robert Sabuda pop up version but it's very intricate and definitely one to read together.

Scratch & Sniff Night Before Christmas - we had this one from Amazon last year - DS loved smelling the christmas items.

This one has just come out and is great. I think children will love the rhyming text and it also has stickers to make your own nativity scene. You can see it if you click here

Not a nativity story but we love it so much want to recommend to everyone interested in Christmassy books - Harvey Slumfenburger's Christmas Present. All about Father Christmas getting home with the reindeer and realises he's forgotten to deliver one last present, to a child who won't get any other presents. So he sets off again, and with various people's help he gets to Harvey's house to deliver the present. It's by John Burningham and is THE BEST Christmas book ever.

We have this one and found it lovely, there is lots of choice in Wesley Owen if you can get to a shop.

We have this one which very beautiful (albeit very delicate!). But my daughter who was not yet 3 last Christmas loved it. And for sheer fun, the Richard Scarry one is a must!
