Are they any good?

I received one of their catalogues and the deals look too good to be true - is there a catch??

I don't trust these book clubs as far as I can throw them. Amazon. Or the library.

No catch, they are brilliant, have used them for years, check red house and school link too.

The book club are excellent - it does what it says on the tin.

The Book People is not a "club" as such and is actually very good. There is no catch and no obligation to buy anything further. I have bought loads of books from them over the years.

They're not really a club, as such - you just order what you want, when/if you want it.

Bookpeople are great - it's not a club, you don't have to buy any books, you just get them whenever you want.

It's not a club.
They're fantastic.
Only problem I have with them is my tendency to overspend by ordering too many books.

I got a catalogue too and was wondering if they were OK. Will definitely be doing an order then

Brilliant, will be ordering this week for Christmas.

None at all. Obviously you have to guard against the temptation to spend, spend, spend because the deals are so cheap. But we have had so many quality bargains from them we are very happy customers.
Most recent was a bundle of ten novels for older children, all Carnegie or other prizewinners. Fabulous value for 9.99 - we got Arthur Ransome, Margaret Mahy, Aidan Chambers, Ursula K LeGuin, Malorie Blackman etc

The Book People are great - no obligation to buy a book every month!

Also try Red House books - the good thing with them is P&P is free on every order regardless how much you spend.

And good for sets of books you can split up for party bags, too.

As others have said they are not a book club, and they are excellent. No catch whatsoever. I have used them for years.Red House is similar and also very good, especially for very recently published books. I've spent far too much money on there today, getting the DDs' Christmas books.

Guess whose dd is getting A Little Princess and whose ds is getting The Compleet Molesworth for Christmas this year, LL? I think they have twigged that their children's editions make terrific special presents from eg godparents because they have increased that range massively in the past five years
I am still sulking at not being able to afford the Eric Gill gospels, alas

Thanks everyone!! Unfortunately, the temptation of cheap books will just have to be tamed....

Have placed a few orders with them and never had any problems. It's not like BFC or anything like that. You buy what you want and nothing else. No obligations otherwise.

LL - I am so tempted by the Andrew Lang fairy tales. I know DD1 would love them, fairy tales are her thing, but really I want them for ME. Is that bad?
