Scary Pinnochio

Just wondered if anyone else has a copy of Pinnochio with illustrations by Roberto Innocenti? I'm slowly building up a library for my young son and saw this edition. flicking through it, i thought the pictures were a wee bit creepy but beautiful so bought it to keep it by until DS is about 7 or 8 (a long way to go). But, looking through it at home, the pictures are seriously creepy and sinister. As beautiful as the art work is, the image of Pinnochio hanging from a tree is rather disturbing and the 'family photo' at the end has a look of 'The Others' about it. Hubby agress, but thinks the art work is ok for older kids and thinks we should keep it. I know we can't protect our kids from the world, and I've always had an open book policy with nieces/nephews but something about this book disturbs me. Am i overreacting?

The original Pinnochio was scary. As were the original Brothers Grimm fairy tales.

If it disturbs you why not get an edition of the book that uses a different illustrator, and keep the other as a collectable?

My mum read Pinnochio to me when I was very young and was shocked at how grisly the tale was

Thanks for the replies, think i will keep the book and buy DS a different edition. It shows how limited my knowledge of the classic tale is because reading the book last night, it is nothing like the Disney version we are used to. Grisly is an appropriate word.
