dd2 loves word searches and simple mazes. Can anyone recommend any (fingers poised over Amazon button)? She likes to do them in bed before she goes to sleep - I know places like Tescos do some but she has most of those.

What about the Puzzle Island/Puzzle Train/Puzzle Planet series published by Usborne? There are lots of them and DS1 loved them at 5 and 6. They have mazes, spot the difference, finding objects in "Where's Wally?" type scenes and various other observation and logic puzzles. They're not so much for 'filling in' but just for reading and solving. They tell a basic story as well!
