He has all of the Julia Donaldsons, lots of Thomas the tank engines, complete set of hairy mclary. Any other ideas? Grandparents are getting lots of books for his birthday but I can't think of any specific book titles to give them.

My little boy likes The Little Red Train books (he is train obsessed though!). Whjat about a childrens cookery book or childrens poetry books? My DS loves to "help" in the kitchen and has been enjoying listening to some funny poems from a book his Nanny and Grandad got him. Any pop ups or lift the flap ones. If I'm stuck I often have a browse on Amazon theres lots of lists that people put on and the "people who bought this also bought" type things. I look up the books he has and enjoys and see what else comes up!

Anything by Quentin Blake - Cockatoos, Loveykins, Zagazoo, All Join In. All brilliant, esp. Cockatoos.

The duck books by I think Jez Aldburgh - Fix-It Duck and others.

My DS (2.5) loves the Richard Scarry books. They are busy, full of pictures, short stories, he really enjoys them

We enjoy most of the ones already mentioned but in addition, if he likes vehicles the Amazing Machines series are great and very informative - my boys love them. To see them just click here Harry and the Dinosaurs are also good ones.

Another recommendation for Jez Alborough - my ds (3) likes the Bear ones as well as the duck ones (It's the Bear, Where's My Teddy, My Friend Bear).

He also likes Nick Sharratt ('Tom and the tinful of trouble' being a fave with both him and me) and Tony Ross ('Little Princess' - not just for girls, and 'Misery Moo' which cracks me up every time)

My son adores the Charlie and Lola books. Nick Sharratt does a good rhyme book "Wriggle and Roar". He also loves Julia Donaldson books, Harry and the Dinosaurs and the Amazing Machines series by Tony Mitton and Ant Parker a/a

My ds who is now 4 loves "You choose" too. When he was 3 he discovered Mr Men books which he still loves now. Another book that has been really successful is a personalised "My family.." book from www.love2read.co.uk which he could read himself by the time he was two and a half as he loved it so much! Also I've always found The Book People site a really good source for books.

Michael Rosen "The Bear in the Cave" is the current fave of my DS1 who has just turned 2. It is recommended for age 5 I think but he loves it and makes us read it every night. Also "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" which we don't have but have seen on Jackanory Junior and is great.

Just read a lovely one with my DS2 aged 3 - 'The broken bird'. Mind you I think I might have enjoyed it more than him

My DD (3) currently loves the Mr Men and little Miss books - until recently they were too long winded for her. That and picture books along a theme, for example everything to do with the sea, or food, more 'factual' topics. Strange as they aren't really stories but she really enjoys them too. Ron Campbell was a firm favorite but now considered babyish apparently!
Richard Starry good too, although I find it a bit American for my taste.

We quite like the Daisy the Duck books, and the Blue Kangaroo books are lovely. And another vote for Shirley Hughes. DS also loves the Dorothy Edwards My Naughty Little Sister books, which are great fun to read but you have to be careful because they're inclined to give inspiration for pranks to little people who don't actually need any more inspiration thank you very much.
