Good books for an almost 7 year old.

Ds is just coming to the end of year 1, he's always been an avid reader and he's pretty advanced. He's just read all the Roald Dahl books by himself several times, he knows them off by heart already. He loves them so much! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what he can read next? He's read lots of Horrid Henry but to be honest I think they're pretty dull and repetitive. That's why I loved the Roald Dahl, they're just so beautifully written! Any suggestions? He loves things that are gruesome of course, he thought The Twits were hilarious

Judy Blume has written some great kids books. Fudge, Super Fudge and many more.

My Y1 DC (not nearly 7 though - that surprised me - I always forget that the summer borns are nearly 7 when my DC has just turned 6) LOVES Mr Gum at the moment.

David Walliams' writing has a great Roald Dahl quality to it.

Liz Pichon's Tom Gates is a great series to get into.

Oliver and the Seawigs is a great illustrated chapter book. Imaginative & fun.

It sounds like he has a good reading level for his age, so this are a bit more complex in language, but fun in terms of content:

The only thing I've found with David walliams books is that sometimes the themes can be a bit grown up, seem to remember a bit about a glamour model in billionaire boy, I think.

My ds is enjoying the how to train your dragon books, he also liked my brothers famous bottom by jeremy strong and woof by Allen ahlberg.
