Has anyone read the Time of the Ghost recently (Diana Wynne jones)?

It was one of my favourite books as a child but I haven't read it in 20 years. What would you say was the age range?

Is that the one about 3 sisters, and one is injured in a car crash and goes back in time appearing as a sort of ghost?

It's quite dark. Very compelling reading though. I wouldn't suggest dd2 reads it, she's 10yo, but very easily scared. I would say probably 10-12 yo younger end. I think part of the problem with a younger one reading it is that the first few chapters are not very scary at all, but once you're into it there are some not so good scenes for younger ones.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Will hold off for a while. I remember loving it but it being scary but couldn't remember how old I was when I first read it.

Wow - does anyone have an old copy I could buy? I was on the front cover but my parents never bought the book and I've never seen it! Sad

early teens? I remember it as one of her strangest ones, and the sacrefice/creation of a deity quite disturbing

I wouldn't recommend it for under 10s - it's dark, and frankly, it would be wasted on them.

Fragglewump - you can buy a new copy (it's still in print), or it's available on kindle.

Sorry, Fragglewump, I think I didn't read your post properly. Were you actually on the cover of it?

jeee I need an old copy because the version I'm on the front of was published in the 1980's. The new version for some crazy reason doesn't feature me any more!?!?!

Yes jeee my art teachers husband was doing the artwork for the cover and she asked me because I resembled a character. It's my only ( and totally crap! ) claim to fame!

Gulp - no never trawled eBay as always had more pressing things to do. Just kept a half hearted eye out in charity shops! Thanks atticus - I think that's me under the sticker thingy on the left - but a glimpse of chin is inconclusive. How funny!

That's not a crap claim to fame.

I'm completely impressed.

Omg - I'm such a muppet - that is totally me - but I'm the big background face - sideways on and pale - I was looking at the three faces in the triangle! I must buy the book mustn't I? What a trip down memory lane! Sorry op for hijacking your thread!

You have to buy the book. And take the cover off. And frame it. And place it in a prominent place in your living room. And tell everyone who comes into the house that it's a picture of you.

As I said earlier, I'm impressed.

jeee you're making my palms sweat now - I don't really like pictures of me .....could explain why I haven't bought the book for 30 years!
