Our August picture book choice is Eddie and Dog. Eddie is looking for a friend who likes an adventure, and then he meets Dog. Eddie wants Dog to live with him, but Eddie's mum says no. How long will Eddie and Dog be apart?

This book is excellent for any child who loves an adventure and dogs. If you think you're DCs will enjoy reading this wonderful story from Alison Brown, then apply for a free copy and please come back and let us know what your child thought on this thread.

We've now closed the form and will be informing those who have been chosen to receive copies later today. If you weren't lucky this time, buy the book here. Do come back and share your thoughts on the book once you've had chance to read.

Thank you so much for sending me such a lovely book. My youngest is just 14 months and I read it to him yesterday (I don't think you can start reading to them early enough). Funnily enough, as I was reading it, my 9yr old, and my 11 yr old came and sat nearby listening too!!!. I think it is a lovely story, well written with beautiful illustration. This book is going to be enjoyed lots of times in this house, thank you so much :)

Thank you for our copy, we received it yesterday.

I've read it to my 3 yo several times and I can see it becoming a firm favourite already. My 6 yo has been reading it to herself and to her brother today, she loves the illustrations, especially as the airfield looks like one near us. They love the roof garden and want to know why our garden doesn't look like theirs, as it looks such fun.

I particularly liked the sense of adventure and Dog's loyalty to Eddie. It was such fun to see how Dog managed to get back home on a moped, used a snorkel to swim back and then flew a plane.

This book is going to be treasured.

I read this book to my two 4 year olds yesterday at bed time. They enjoyed the story especially when the dog was riding a bike though it was difficult to tell whether that was down to the story or my reaction to the slight craziness of it.
I can see them wanting me to read it over and over!

Received ours today! 23mo ds particularly likes the plane and dh and I love the illustrations and simple story. We're always on the look out for beautifully illustrated simple stories and our ds loves sitting on the floor and 'reading' all his books :) this will become a favourite I think.

Just read this to 11mo dd, she loved the pictures and enjoyed pointing out the dog.
I really liked the story as we have a very loyal faithful dog and snuggles up at story time so with dd on one arm and him with his head on my shoulder it was particularly nice.
Will sure become a favourite Smile

Lovely book, Eddie & Dog, very nicely illustrated. Maybe the font could have been bigger on the smaller words, direct feedback from Jess age 5 who was reading. There is plenty of room on the page to do so.
Great story which we really enjoyed and no doubt will read again.
Looking forward to more adventures with Eddie and Dog.
thanks very much for letting us have the pleasure of reading

Thank you for the lovely book. We have really enjoyed reading it over the last few days. It has been requested on multiple occasions. My ds was rather impressed with the dog's ability to ride a moped and fly a plane. He didn't really appreciate the value and beauty of the roof garden (I would love a well kept roof garden with a dog as a gardener.), however he was up for the ice cream on the outside table.

Thank you for this book. DS (4) really likes it. The story works well, and he picked up on the repeated theme "he came back". The pictures are lovely and have lots of interesting details. I think it works both for the child and the adult reading. I would consider buying it as a present.

Thank you so much for the book, it is wonderful. I love the illustrations, the 'he came back' bit each time, my DD joined in with that. A really nice read.

Was so chuffed to receive a copy of this book - thanks! My 8 month old daughter gets really excited to see animals, especially dogs, so I figured Eddie and Dog would be a fab story, even if she was too young to sit through it. We read it one afternoon and she stroked the pages and listened to the story. I think it's brilliant and am looking forward to her growing with the story and seeing her responses! Grin

Thank you for Eddie and Dog. What a sweet little story! It also has beautiful illustrations with plenty of little details for little ones to spot on subsequent readings. Both my 7 yo and 4 yo enjoyed it - it had just the right amount of repetition to get them both involved and joining in with "but the dog came back..."

As cornflakegirl suggests, it would make a lovely present.

My 3 year old loves this book! It's joined the 'must read daily' pile. She particularly likes the illustrations and the relationship between the two characters, saying 'they love each other just like me and Jessie' (her kitten). Very cute story, thank you!

We read our copy of Eddie and the Dog today and along with a nice story and beautiful pictures and talk or wonderful adventures I liked the way it portrayed that you can't just get a pet you need to be able to look after it - if it's a dog you need a garden etc. I also liked the way it showed what a strong bond we can have with our pets. Eddie and Dog didn't want to be separated bless them.

A really nice story and a lovely read.
