DD - 10
How to Draw Animals - massive hit, she has been drawing all day
The Lion Children - ditto, in spare time from drawing
Inkheart trilogy - yet to be tried but she liked the film so I think they will be a hit
A Dog so Small - she already had this one so we have to find a nice home for it

Aww, stig of the dump... I loved that as a child! :)

She also got 10 new Mr Men books as we were given some by a work colleague and she liked them, plus they are nice and short! Mr Bounce?Mr Cherful sem to be the favourites so far. Smile

just non fiction (cookbooks x 2, knitting book, sewing book, 2 art books, big thick book on dinosaurs, book with ideas for making cards, bulging box horrible science or whatever it is called, book on bubble writing, calligraphy book, children's encyclopedia)

Think that was it this year, less books than usual tbh although it sounds a lot when I list it. She'll get good use out of it all I think, usually does.

Am a bit Xmas Envy over the lemony snicket. Can remember buying the first one for my dn when he was about the age of my DS and he loved it. Think it might be heading my DS' way on his birthday

DD got a new Percy Jackson and a couple of Frank Cottrell Boyce. DS got the new Wimpy Kid and Guinness Book of Records, and they got a few annuals.

DD1 is 5 tomorrow, DD2 is 3, and DS is just 3 months. So far we've read the second Gaskitt Family book by Allen Ahlberg and are looking forward to the third. Just started The Stone Goblins by David Melling but DD2 not so keen at the moment. I've got a cold and have lost my voice so my reading style isn't the best just now, we'll see what they think when DH takes over tomorrow.

We've already got or have had from the Library: Mog's Christmas, Silly Suzy Goose, Borka, The Enormous Crocodile all of which we like.

They also got:

How the Weather Works (pop-up book)
Build your own castle/Pirate Ship (I got these, there is loads of factual stuff in them but also east to pop out shapes to construct a castle and figures to colour in and cut out so lots to do, there are more in the series which we might have to get)
Flower Fairies of the Spring/Summer/Winter (loved this when I was a child and now like that there are fairies of both sexes)
Collected Works for Children by Carol Ann Duffy (this is fab!)
Collected Works for Children by Ted Hughes
The Magic Faraway Tree Box Set (my cousin gave me DD1 this, we would swap box sets when we were kids and both loved EB)
DK Science Encyclopedia
the Wee book of Scottish Fairytales
2 books about London
Mrs Pepperpot Stories
A Little Book of Jesus Stories (from MIL, I'm an atheist, not sure it's entirely an appropriate gift for the child of an atheist but will fit into our collection of ancient myths)
See Under the Ground
Orchard Book of Roman Myths
Katie's book of Creepie Crawlies (Scots dialect book)
The Christmas Story (also MIL)
The Complete Beatrice Potter (absolutely gorgeous)
The Bedtime Book by Sandra Boynton (very good, love her stuff)

I come from a big and bookish family so Christmas always means lots of books.

DD11 got My Family and other animals, Tom sawyer, the Flambards books and Little House on the prairie. All from me, and all recommended by a previous MN thread. Thanks!

She also got a book about science by Richard Dawkins. Can't remember the name. Looks great though and she really likes it. She hasn't read any of them yet though - she's been going to bed too late.

DS (8) got The Guinness Book of Records, from which he keeps reading exceedingly non interesting snippets when I'm trying not to listen. He got a couple of Wimpy Kid ones, which he is very pleased with, and I bought him Olga da Polga, which we are both loving.

DS is 6, he got a Dirty Bertie book from FC. From family: Stig of the Dump, Clever Polly & the Stupid Wolf, The Queen's Nose.

Biggest hit so far has been a children's version of The Odyssey, which he loves because there's plenty of gore.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 28/12/2012 23:28

Oh and Guiness Book of Records which thankfully DH is interested in so I don't have to feign excitement about odd facts...
