It's difficult to find any that are age / interest appropriate. We have read most of the Barrington stoke books that are aimed at girls with a reading age of 7, now I'm struggling ! Any ideas ?

my 12yo dyslexic waded through twlight and then read and reread them until she understood them.

She also got her Dad to read bits of them to her.

She also read HP and listened obsessively to the audio books of them. They were pretty much on permanent order from the library.

At 14 her head is never out of a book, but out loud her reading is still awful.

I think she'd recommend Skull duggary pleasant, Alex Rider and Percy jackson also some easier stuff. I' ll ask in the morning.

She's a school librarian and weirdly books are far more her thing than DD2 who is undyslexic as it is possible to be.

Buy a toe by toe manual from amazon. We use them in our school and have had children progress from being almost non readers to reading at high level 4/5 in a matter of months. Then hopefully your dd will enjoy reading age appropriate materials in a short period of time.

you might try Mortal Chaos books by Matt Dickinson (OUP) - they have very short chapters so whilst the writing itself does not specifically cater for dyslexics they are relatively east to read and have an interest level is ideal for a 12 year old.
The new teen costa winner - Maggot Moon is by Sally Gardner who has dyslexia. Its interesting reading her bio and might provide some inspiration. I am currently reading and reviewing it for my website www.booksteensandmagazines.com.

Have you tried use of Reading rulers and/or a kindle.

My children prefer to use a kindle, and will read if highly motivated, which has included The Hunger Games, Twilight and the Morganville Vampires.

Thanks. Will have a look at these.

OhBuggerandArse...We've been through most of the Barrington stoke books. They are very good.
