I'm just starting my christmas shopping, and I just wondered if anyone had suggestions for books to buy for my 4 month old DS, and also my 16 month old niece? What are your children's favourites?

For the baby any of the "thats not my..." series. My 10 month old loves the textures. She probably likes them better than toys.

For the older one, books like peepo, spot, dear zoo, hungry caterpillar.

I have a 15 month old DD. Her current favourites (Amazon linking for easiness!) are Say Hello To The Jungle Animals, Peace At Last and First 100 Words. The first two being much more fun for me to read to her. The 'That's Not My...' ones previously mentioned are are still going strong as well.

16 month old may like the Lulu range- Lulu's lunch is a good one. You can get them on Amazon.

Get board books too, a lot more able to deal with toddlers opening them and closing them than paper books. That's if you've not already thought of that.

My DD loves 'each, peach, pear, plum' read it every night before bed.

the Helen Oxenbury books featuring the just toddling fat babies are lovely. there are several of them- 'All fall down' is one of them, I think. Dear Zoo, Peepo, Hungry Caterpillar, Dinosaur Roar, we're going on a bear hunt, meg and mog, maisie mouse, miffy, are all classics which appeal from babyhood but will still be appreciated by 2,3,4 year olds so a good buy, esp. if you get the more durable board book format.
