MIchael Crichton: Jurassic Park - is it appropriate for a 12 year old?

dd has just watched Jurassic Park and said she would like to read the book. I have never read it but I gather it is a book for adults. I realise it must have some grisly scenes in it. Has anyone read it and could tell me whether it contains descriptions of sex and adult relationship dramas generally?I don't think she could cope with that yet, she is a young 12.

the reviews I am reading are generally bad, doesn't sound like a very good book but so far I can't judge whether it is a book for a pre-teen. Several reviews claim that it is not particularly accurate in the depiction of dinosaurs and has very little character development.
