placenta recipes, anyone?

EVer since my last (and first) birth, I've regretted not having seen the placenta (it was forceps in theatre with caesarean threatened - all very clinical). I'm definitely putting in my birth plan this time that I want to see it. But I also remember reading somewhere that eating the placenta was supposed to be good for preventing PND, and suddenly found myself the other night thinking about eating it (which I'd always dismissed as a beardy-weirdy, knit-your-own-yoghurt sort of thing to do before!). I just mentioned it to my dh, sure it would freak him out, and to my complete astonishment he was fairly positive, even said he'd eat it too (but drew the line at offering it to friends!!). He told me to ask mumsnet for recipes, so don't let me down!
Out of interest, has anyone here actually eaten theirs? What did it taste like? We went on to have a hilarious conversation about what we'd do with it if we didn't like it - bury it? No, the foxes might get it...burn it? Pour flaming brandy over it, take a picture and use it as a 'xmas pud' image on next years christmas card????

it is extremely beardy-weirdy, knit-your-own-yoghurt sort of thing

but if you want to do it I've heard that you treat it like liver .. ie fry it up with onions and maybe some garlic

personally I think its a sick concept but whatever rocks your boat

NO! You can't...the horror! Take fish oils instead. Very good at preventing PMT in proper studies.
If you are interested in placenta recipes, just google placenta recipes and you will find a couple of us websites to make your hair curl. Placenta lasagne, anyone.

Hugh Fearnley Whittingsteel (spelling?!) did it on telly once - maybe you could contact him somehow and ask? Apparently even a vegetarian said she would be happy to eat it as she couldn't complain about how it was reared......

Saw a programme once about a woman who cooked hers into a pate type of thing and then invited all of her family and friends round to share it. Then they planted the umbilical cord under a tree.

Yuck to the eating it but I had a good old look at my placenta from dd. I had a new student midwife (only her 2nd birth) so we both were given a guided tour by the sister midwife who delivered me. Very interesting and a lot bigger than you would think!

I've seen one (not mine) and there is no way on earth I would consider eating it. It's like an enormous piece of liver.

I saw mine and it was exactly like a huge liver, and also reminded me of a dead jellyfish, the way it was sitting on the bed like jellyfish sit on the beach. Had no urges to eat it, or even save it.

Erm - I actually know someone who's eaten placenta (his mate's dp's - they had a dinner party...). Apparently it tastes
