Hypnotherapy for labour

For ds I wanted to have a water birth, had a very nice birth plan and ... ended up with an epidural and a ventouse delivery.
This time round (No2 is planned for th 17 May), I would like to avoid the epidural and I am thinking of hypnotherapy. Has someone tried it ? Did it worked ? and who did you go to see ?

Hiya, I don't have any direct experience with this, but www.natalhypnotherapy.co.uk looks as though it has some useful CD's if you wanted to take the 'DIY' route. I've heard good things about them, too.

I know the lady who runs natal therapy and would recommend it
The success with hypnotherapy varies from individual to individual.... the very best and you ahve an aamzing experience, the "worst" there is a slight improvement.

I just did a birth (I am a birth doula) with someone who had used the tapes. I found her incredibly positive. It was her first birth and she did it in 5 hours no pain relief at all, no gas and air either - and incredible second stage where she had the foetus ejection reflex (not eften witness nowadays - where the woman doesn't even push, it just comes out gently).... quite an amazing birth !

Wow Pupuce!! Sounds amazing!! Did make me do a double take though as I had images of the baby being ejected like a cork from a bottle across the room!

I've just been to the site and ordered the homebirth CD.

I also found another website from an hypnotherapist who is "specialized" in chilbirth but unfortunatly, he is too far from where I live.

Thanks KerryJ and Pupuce - I've also just ordered the homebirth programme - spoke to a lovely lady who is also a birth doula (maybe the person you know pupuce). Looking forward to listening to them!

My homebirth prep CD arrived in the post this morning! Really impressive service, and the booklet about hypnobirth is great. Really seems to echo the sort of birth I aspire to (peaceful, natural, etc) and should complement what I want nicely. Here's hoping, eh?!
