If you had a premature rupture of membranes (waters went but no contractions) first time did it happen with your second pregnancy too?

Yes, it happened for me twice, second time is just this week, see thread on induction with prostin, experiences...no contractions here as of yet and waters went last wedensday. Same last time i'm afraid. That said, everyone is different, every pregnancy too. has this happened to you?

My sisters waters broke and then nothing, on being checked later there was meconium in the waters so she had to be induced.

No
ds1 - waters went term+12, ds1 born term+14
ds2 - induced term+11, ds2 born term+12 - waters went about 8 or 9 hours after pessary and when I had already started to get going (though damn, the waters going surely sped things up!)
Good luck, though

I will watch this with interest as my DS, 5, was born 5 weeks early when I had premature rupture of membranes - am now 24 weeks pregnant with my second and am so worried about this happening even earlier! Saw the consultant last week who said that I do have slightly more chance of it happening again, but who knows....

First pregnancy didn't even notice my waters breaking.
Second pregnacy had to get them ruptured at 8cm.

No, different:
DD1 - waters broke 27 hours before delivery
DD2 - evil witch of a midwife broke them deliberately during labour - pain went from badish to agonising immediately.

Don't know if there is really more chance or if it is just coincidence, but it happened to me with both my babies.

1st; 2 weeks early, waters broke no contractions, put on drip, baby born without too much difficulty for a first. I'm sure with hindsight that I didn't need the drip (hospital policy and I didn't know any better).

2nd; waters broke 4 weeks early, hardly any contractions. I stayed on my feet as much as I could and WILLED contractions as didn't want drip, etc. Baby born easily and quickly with no interventions.

Don't know if this is true, but I read somewhere that if your waters have a tendancy to go early this can be helped by taking lots of natural vitamin C through diet and supplements. Could be worth checking out if you have a concern.

1st time - yes waters broke 13 days before EDD, was going to be induced 24hrs later - ended up with CS (long story) not a single contraction and no dilation at all.

2nd time - waters broke 7 days before EDD, was induced 72hrs later (again no contractions or anything) and DS2 finally came out the correct exit.

3rd time............I'll let you know in about 3 months time .

But FWIW I have a friend at church who has 3 children.

Her first the waters broke and she was induced several days later.

2nd time waters broke and he went into labour about 2 days later (on her own)

3rd time - waters broke and she was in full blown labour within hours.

Yes, both times. First was the trickle kind and the next was a gusher

There is no reason why two pregnancies and labours should be the same.

Each of my labours (4) were different and people that I work with have varying experiences, some the same, some not.

With ds1 my waters broke at 5am, contractions started at 8am and ds was born 1.45am the following day

With ds2 my contractions started at 3.30am, had waters broken at 8.15am and gave birth at 8.55am

Much preferred 2nd labour, will have to wait until May to see how third labour goes

no for me too

DD1 - waters broke at 37+5 weeks, born about 6 hours later, official contraction/labour time 4h 20 mins

DD2 - was fully dilated in 30 minutes (ouch!I seem to go 0-60mph in labour) but waters were intact and head was still high, begged MW to break them and DD2 flew out. Time from first contraction to DD2s arrival 2h 30 m would have been a lot faster had waters gone first.

BettySpaghetti · 06/03/2007 19:28

yes

DD -waters broke overnight, induced 2 days later

DS -waters broke overnight, contractions/labour started in the morning.

Report

Happened for me too; with DD, waters broke and contractions started about an hour later. With DS, waters broke but no contractions for another four hours. Am expecting number three in May and wondering whether it will be the same again!
