This is a bit stupid, but this is my third, waters didn't go with the other 2 until I was pushing, and it was torrential. I sat on a bus today and got up after an hours sleep, to feel soaking wet down my bum and legs - but nothing since - not as much liquid as the other two, and when I got home my pad was dry (????????) and the wet patch didn't smell of urine. I am on my own, so if I go into hospital to get them to check, I wil have to farm out the other two with neighbours, so I want to be sure this isn't a wild goose chase. If it was my waters breaking, surely they would still be trickling?

When mine went with No1, it was a constant wetting, eg, if I put a pad on, it got wet after a short time. It satrted at about 7:30 in the morning and by mid dmorning, I was wetting through the pad so quickly, when I went to the loo (in the hospital) I had unwittingly wet my trousers

But the speed of liquid coming out depends on the size of the break in your bag and the position of the baby's head so the amount can differ greatly.

How many weeks are you?

With DD1 it was like I had wet myself just a little wet patch, about an hour later there was a little bit more wasn't a trickle though. Started trickling when I got to hospital to be checked out about 2 hours later. DD1 was born about 6 hours after that!

Would go to be checked out TBH.

Good luck sounds like no 3 is on his/her way!

Mine went very suddenly, big gush. Really didn't last long though and nothing after that. It was defo waters going though. Good luck babe. Think it sounds like it.

With my DS1 i had started getting slight contractions at about 11:30 the night before he was born. I went to bed and woke up at 2:30 to wet underwear.

I knew it must have been my waters as there was quite a bit but not at all as much as I had ecpected, but I too got nothing more. When I got to the hospital they did not know if my waters had gone or not and when I had the c-sec you could see my waters were still intact.

When I queried this I was told it was probably my hind waters that had gone.... It could be that... I would get it checked if you are able to.

My waters went with a gush, then continued to leak immensely for several hours. I needn't have bothered with a pad. I had to sit on the loo most of the time or stay on the hospital bed soaking through their disposable matts!

That was with DS2 btw. With DS1, they went in one go whilst I was throwing up, lying in the hospital bed

Mine were an intial gush then trickling as I moved around. Nothing dramtic.

I think the baby can change position and then block the rest from coming out, so maybe that's what happened? Mine were torrential too, but I would have thought you should probably check. Can you phone them and get some advice?

Also waters smell differently, I always think if you smell them and they smell like a newborn then it's your waters!! Best of luck

the fluid smells sweet, not like wee

also, it could be a hindwater leak, which can reseal and the waters replenish... a big gush would indicate the forewaters have gone, in front of the baby's head...and that is your waters going!

put a pad on and see what happens and if it is still leaking tonight, when DH is home, maybe go and get checked out...no urgency to do it this second!

thanks so much for the swift replies. I am only 35 weeks, and am having mild contractions as I type, but v irregular, so I think it is false labour. DH is in Canada, so I don't want to have to create false alarms if in fact it is just my non existent PF...... you'd think I knew what I was doing by now.....

Frenziednester I'm due number 6 very soon and I have found that each birth experience is unique. You learn something each time about your body and the whole birth experience. Most of mine were like your ist 2 in that the waters went whilst pushing. The last time ,however, they went 2 hours before gave birth. i thought i'd become badly incontinent, until i smelt them, then I knew what it was

also, FN....you can get a big increase in discharge when you are in late pregnancy....

anyhoo....put on a pad , and if you are still leaking later, call labour ward...at this stage it sounds like it is nothing to worry about, and you are going to get BH at this stage, unless your waters go with a massive gush, it is probably a small leak....

Mine were like Burstinbugs, a huge gush and then constant leaking. I was at home with towels in my huge maternity pants as I would saturate a pad no sooner had I put it on

Flamesparrow · 04/03/2007 21:47

I had loads of discharge late pregnancy with both (to the extent I was wearing slim sanitary towels as pantyliners couldn't cut it).

with my first, at 36 weeks, woke up wet, and it was just a bit of a trickle, and I too wasn't sure. No smell, or colour. I'd had no show. I went in to hosp, and yes they had gone, but I ended being induced a day later. Exactly same with no 2, but with no 3, contractions started at home and waters broke in hosp later in labour- there were gallons then!
frenziednester- any news?

with ds they went while I was stood up in the kitchen - in nightie with no knickers on - so it sort of gushed all over the floor

However it then continued to trickle out for several hours more. Think I had to change a maternity pad quite regualry.

No news - I think I must have wet myself (sorry if tmi), as all that has happened since is more and more irregular contractions. Thanks for the info though - it has been v interesting.....

I had a trickle that went on for hours when my waters broke before I even went into labour.

I did feel more like a period then peeing myself and it was continous and more than I though I would pee considering what I drank. Also, when I smelled my pad (sorry if TMI) it didn't smell like pee, it didn't smell much of anything.

There is a funny story to this actually as I was on the hospital tour with my antenatal class when I got concerned about my constant 'leeking', so I asked one of the midwife to humour me and double check and, to cut a long story short, my dd was born 17 hours later, lol.
