I had a check with midwife 2day and she examined me on monitor, showing babys heartbeat is fine& that im having strong contractions - I knew i wasnt mad,and theyre a lot worse at nite(am 38 wks)but not strong enuf2do anything yet as my cervix is not in any way ready(she gave me an internal)...she explained to me that she suspects the agony Im in with backache etc is due to the baby being in the posterior(back to back)position. While this would explain a lot my consultant and midwife I saw a couple weeks back said they could feel the baby's back (the babys head engaged at 33wks)and I was sure thats how he's lying...I dont feel feet or fists...I feel sum huge rump under my chest which I thought was the babies bum, sumtimes feels like heels but definitely doesnt feel like hands or feet, everything Ive read about foetal positioning suggests he's in the anterior position...sometimes it feels like hes slightly more on my left side, like a bit sidewise but hes always poking out and moving nonstop..I really didnt think he was in the posterior position. Is it possible the midwife is wrong or could he have changed positions and thats why so much more pain now? I thought it was harder for the babys head to engage if in that position!? If shes right then is that not a bit worrying that his heads been down facing the wrong way for so long or worse that he twisted himself round? The midwife told me to take lots of painkillers and not to expect the pain to go away until hes born! I know this can mean a harder longer labor too...im a bit freaked now cos I know my mother had an emergency c-section with me as my head was stuck the wrong way and I was in distress. All this time Ive been delighted that everythings going to plan, I sleep on my side, never put my feet up, am active, dont slouch and dont even have a "waddle" as hubby says...so a bit disappointed and worried for poor baby to think hes stuck the wrong way, any advice???
