Overdue - in labour or BHs

Hi, I've not posted on MN before so I hope you dont mind my asking for some advice. I am currently 41+2 weeks pregnant and since 6pm on new years eve I've been getting pains. They have mainly been like bad period cramps which radiate into my back. They seem to be coming in waves and I tried to time them but them seemed to vary from 3mins to 8mins apart and only lasted about 30secs or so. The pains seemed to ease off a bit by about 7am this morning but I am still getting the pains on and off and now I'm getting shotting pains which seem to be in my bottom (sorry if TMI). As this is my first baby I'm not sure if this is the start of labour or just BH contractions. I've had no indication up to now that the baby is on the way and I'm due to be induced on Wed (3rd Jan). I think the intensity of the pains is getting stronger but not the frequency. Can someone please let me know if they have experienced anything like this? Apologies for the long post!
Many thanks and a happy new year to all!
Emma (41+2)

If you are in doubt ring the delivery suite.
Good luck

Emma, my first labour was the painful BHs I'd been having for several months, escalating. Took me ages to work it out. Give the midwife a ring!

trust me, you will know (99% of the time) when you're in labour. It wont ease, it wont go away... the only way you will know is see if it gets more intense, more frequent and regular. xXx

Ah, you see, I didn't 'know'. I spent hours thinking 'I've felt these before, they can't be labour pains' and they were.
