Had a nasty forcept delivery with dd. It left her with a scar to right cheek.
Hospital investigated and accepted that it was their fault.
Now expecting no2.
Will my midwife asign me stright to consultant care?
If i demand a c-section will they let me?
Any thoughts very welcome

ds had bruising to the back of his head and ear with forceps, i had laboured 24hrs and they needed to get him out, they tried with forceps and some other tool like things but they kept missing him causing the bruising, eventually his heart stopped and they whipped him out in an emergency c-section, ds however was on the large side at over 9lb however 4yrs on i had a labour of 16hrs and i gave birth natuarlly, i would say its ultimately how you feel, don't know if they will put you straight to consultant care i was because of the c/s, my sister has had 2 forcep deliveries the first was the worst and she only needed a little help with the second

so sorry that you and your DD had a bad time of it .....

is it really likely you will need forceps again...not always the case that because you ahve had intervention once, you will need it again..or if you do, it will be as traumatic..

i take it you have been through all teh notes etc due to the investigation and know why she was a forceps delviery?

maternal request is not in itself an indication for cs..but due to the trauma of the last delivery.. i doubt you you would be refused..but bera in mind c.s is major abdominal surgery and there are implications for future pregancies and births if you have a c.s

what i would think about doing, is looking at all the ways you can avoid intervention and make labour and delivery a better, more positive experience.....having a doula with you can reduce the odds of a c.s or instrumental delivery quite substantially.

the second time, you know better what is going to happen, how you will feel, what you can get through..

being in different postions, being in water, not having an epidural, being at home, are all things that can make a vast difference to the birth experience..

my first birth ended in a c.s , and my second was a succesful VBAC...but i had spent a lot of time learning about birth, the physiology of birth, and how to make the experience better for me..i needed to understand how the process worked, and how i could work with it

it is certainly worth discussing all the options, with the midwife and doing your own reading etc. to make sure whatever decision you come to, is one you are happy with.....whether that is a c,s or a vaginal delivery!
