membranes bulging what does this mean???

SIL been to hospital today and just got back having few tightnings nothing else but has been told membranes are bulging and she can feel them between her legs and can even feel them!

It means the weight of the baby is making it likely the membranes will rupture and that's more commonly called "waters breaking"!!
