C-Section Query???????

Hello all I'm having an elective section at the end of Jan having had a dreadful first birth. I remember bleeding alot after birth and I'm wondering how this is dealt with after a c-section. Do you bleed as much and obviously you are bed bound initially so how to you change towels etc????

I had C Section in May, only bed bound for a few hours. Once pain relief & sickness had gone I could walk about. The nurses made sure there was a pad in place & they put a bed mat beneath me just in case. Bleeding didn't appear until I started walking about & then there was lots. I am told that you bleed just as much when you have a C Section. The bleeding continued for approximately 10 weeks for me, not at the same rate. It also was very heavy if I over did things in the first couple of weeks following the CSection. You'll be able to walk (carefully!) after an hour or two. I don't know if you had an epidural before - the spinal wearing off is much the same as that I think.

i had a c-section 2 weeks ago... bleeding wasn't any different to my normal delivery!! very heavy the first few hours and then started settling with the sudden gushes when i stood or fed!! i was up 12 hours after the birth after insisting they remove my pain relief at 3 in the morning, i then got up and walked to the toilet, bidet (?sp?) was the most amazing thing i've ever used! felt much refreshed after using it!

i found the staff were really helpfull (for the first night at least) and were happy to help me change, but i'm a bit stubborn and did it myself.. i let them do the bed though!

It was the same, and the midwives changed my pads for me for the first night (had a late section) and then in the mornign I was up.

the midwives will change your pads and they usually put an extra sheet on the bed, an inco pad thing that can soak anything else up. sometimes if you feel up to it will see if you want help going to the shower in the evening, if not they will/should offer you a bed bath or vulval toilet to freshen you up a bit.

Its normal to have a gush when you first get out of bed, and also after feeding. How long the loss goes on does vary, if it doesnt smell (sorry tmi) off and there are no clots bigger than a 50p piece dont worry about it.

Had C-section 10 months ago, late at night, emergency.
Nurses changed pad for the first day and gave bed bath second morning. Unfortunately stayed on drip for 5 days as had a very distended stomach due to the emergency bit! But bled for 7 weeks in all, not heavy at all. Worst bit was the sweats at night three days after birth, no warning about that, removed the breast milk and it soon passed.
