I don't know how it works LeDodgy, I have been on threads that have had over a 1000 messages before, but somtimes they close at or around a 1000.

Maybe it is when MNHQ have just had enough of a thread?!! LOL

I am in a serious gloating mood now

Report
lulumama · 01/12/2006 21:39

i will have to move house before may then NJ......

seems that 1000 posts is the maximum per thread

LVB&T - have a look at

train & place birth & post natal doulas nationwide

and

doula uk..main uk doula site

i think a birth doula would be loathe to leave if you were in labour to do school run!!! esp if you have quick births!!! the continous one to one support is key......could discuss it with whomever you booked though......can you get a friend to be on standby for the school run?

Since our hospitals are run like business (we don't do private and government) the maternity ward serves like an advertisement. Most rooms now adays are LDRP rooms (labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum) So for a vaginal delivery you are only in one room. They know that young women usually only go to the hospital for maternity, and they can use that as a way for young families to start using their services. Maternity is usually one of the better wards. It is in ours. I would send anyone for maternity, but everyone I know who has been sick has died. They're stupid on other floors.

They do the typical hospital menu because they know maternity patients aren't sick, and don't need diet restrictions. At our hospital all rooms are private and have pull out beds for partners to sleep in. This usually depends on the size of the hospital though.

Sorry to ramble but it fascinates me how the systems are so different here and there. People are always talking that we need to have some type of universal healthcare in the US, and It's interesting to think about how services would change both for the better and the worse if we did.

You know what I find amazing about this 1001 message thread is that it was a thread that was totally positive and people weren't debating or being mean. It was just plain fun.

No, no not do do the school run if i was in labour.... the kids want to watch

I mean the next few days after ive had the baby, so i dont have to. Otherwise his mum or my mum will have to stick around to do it and i may not want them to IYKWIM

MKG, your hospital would cost us £££££££'s to give birth in over here!

I don't think I'd call sniffing pads, home made sweeps, contractions, jelly babies, and goodness knows how many caleries fun....! What are you on woman???!!

Please excuse my Americanness here, but what is a school run? Do you not have buses that pick the kids up?

Report
MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 01/12/2006 21:47

NJ, you know what it cost me, $5 with my insurance, without insurance mine would have cost about $5000. It goes up if you have epidurals and C-sections can get up $20,000, but it all depends on what the doctor charges the hospital.

lulumama · 01/12/2006 21:47

sorry LVB&T ---- post natal doula would definitely do a school run if you discussed it...you would talk about it with her before booking...and be upfront & honest with each other about what you would like her to do and what she is happy to do....! but school run is defiitely one of those things that could be covered by a post natal doula!
