my midwife came round to see me today for our 1st meeting allthough its the same widwife i had with ds, as i suffer from depression and panic attacks about death NOT HURTING MY SELF its to do with worried and beleave that i am going to die, or dp will at work or ds mini bus will crash and he will die, well obviously im terrified with the thiught of birth again i rerember saying to dp when i was in labout with ds IM GOING TO DIE, so now its in my head that im going to die this time

Well my midwife really listened and is refering me to a specialist midwife that deals with this kind of thing and see what we can come up with.

Has anyone been refered like this before and what kinds of thing will they suggest to help me??

Not had your sort of thing, but had issues of my own from my first child's birth and have had a session with a specialist midwife as a result while pg with my second child. The wonderful thing about being refered to a midwife who specialises in handling emotional issues is that they listen, they take you seriously, and they do not judge you. Certainly I found my time with the specialist midwife hugely helpful and have never regretted going to see her. She really helped me deal with my issues, and as a result I had a completely different and vastly more positive and satisfying birthing experience the second time around.

I'm sure yours will help you and you will be better prepared for your labour and more secure in yourself as a result.

I have a friend who had something similar (not with regard to childbirth) and was diagnosed as having OCD - I'm sure the best way to deal with it would be holistically (ie other than just the birth issues) - can your GP help, too?

Have you considered counselling? Perhaps CBT or hypnobirthing would help? I had my first ever session of hypnotherapy today and it was nothing like I'd ever imagined, but very realistic, calming and reassuring. I'm sure you know how few people die giving birth now, but it sounds like you really need your mind to give your body a break and let you relax. Take care xx
