bea, sending lots of positive vibes for a short and happy birth for no3.

I had a quick second birth, but no more after that, so I'm not going to guess.

I'm just hoping you'll get the quick birth you're hoping for.

Best friend had following labours:

17hrs with DD1
1.5hrs with DS
45mins with DD2

I think people say that the third one messes you about, makes you think you're in labour/ready, then hangs on and hangs on. When it does happen though it's supposed to be fast and furious. That's the rumour, hope it's fast for you, with very little of the hanging on.

ds1 - induced, 8-9 hours
ds2 - spontaneous, 5.5 hours from first twinge but really only about 10 mins from real pain and waters breaking to giving birth
ds3 - 2.5 hours from first contractions to birth

Good luck!

Only done 2... first one 15 1/2 hrs start to finish, second 26 hrs start to finish... both were about 6 hours established though, and the second was very very fast at the end.

Dunno if that helps!!!

Thinking speedy thoughts for you.

showofhands - that was true for me. Felt like I was in slow labour for about a week in the run up to ds3. Was 4cm and very uncomfortable on Friday am but didn't actually give birth till Sunday am. Fast when it happened though - woke at 2.15am with proper contractions and ds3 born at 4.45am.

DD1 - 7 hours, 2 days early
DS1 - 3.5 hours, 10 days late
DD2 - under 1 hour, 7 days early

No problems with 3rd baby for me. Had her at home. Fantastic.

45 minutes is hard to beat but usually subsequent babies are quicker. Are you booked for a homebirth?

For me the first easy stage gets longer each time but the pushing... very fast with baby 2 and baby3. Now I am expecting no 4 and hoping it'll be fast and for you to!

If there was to be a number 4 (which there isn't)I'd be sure to wear tights to catch it after the first contraction if my ratio is anything to go by!

1 - 12 hours
2 - 4 hours
3 - 6 hours

I am talking about active labour here. With 2 and 3 I had on-off contractions for a couple of hours prior to things really 'kicking off'.

Best of luck when it happens!
