I had bright red bleeding off and on for over 6 weeks both times (checked out by GP and midwives) and although no one had an explanation it was fine. Turns out I'm just a bleeder!

Please don't worry.

Have you been particularly busy? It's v common for the bleeding to tail off and then go bright red again if you've been overdoing it. Bleeding in this way for 6 weeks is considered normal.

Of course sometimes fresh bleeding can be due to infection or retained placenta. Do you feel otherwise okay? No fever, no feeling ill, no odour to the blood?

I had bright red bleeding after a couple of days of nothing every time I started overdoing it. If you are otherwise well, try taking things easy and keep an eye on it.

Don't worry its normal. 5 weeks bleeding here, doctor said fine at 6 week check.

Lochia gets lighter and heavier flow. I was a bit surprised when it 'started up' again!

10 weeks bleeding here (fun fun!) and confirmed as fine by the doctors. As others have said, it got heavier when I was more active.

I was told initial bleeding is most of your uterus then later the section where your placenta was attached sheds and bleeds. This can mean continuos bleeding for some or stop and starting for others.

Hello, I've just been wondering the same thing - I'm also 4 weeks gone, and I thought my bleeding was just finishing as it had really tailed off to practically nothing but it's started again, bright red. Does anyone know at what point you should worry, if at all? Also, how do you know if it's a period, and not just more lochia?
