Long phase between 1st and 2nd stage of labour.

I'm pg with DC3, and my thoughts are turning to my second labour. I had a EMCS with DD1 and a VBAC attempt at home but ended up a hospital delivery with DD2.

To summarise, by the time I called the MW I was fully dilated, this was at 5pm. I continued to contract for several hours but didn't move into 2nd stage until the MW did an ARM at around 11pm, then I immediately went into unmistakable 2nd stage which at the time was such a relief. Due to the MW struggling to get a heartbeat I was rushed into hospital and DD2 was born shortly after 1am.

Has anyone else had such a long transition phase? Does anyone know why this happens and if it's likely to happen again?

I'm having a hospital birth this time and I want to be at home for as long as possible but I know that if I went into hospital fully dilated they will not allow me to be in limbo for so long.
