Hypnosis CD for childbirth

Went to see my midwife today, I'm really freaking out about childbirth even to the point I can't go to an antenatal class because I feel it will make me worse.

My midwife was so lovely and has even arranged to meet me through the week to show me around the maternity ward. She was so lovely and said to try hypnosis for child birth.

I'm a very anxouis person to the point I spend all day worrying about child birth it's taking the excitement away from having a baby.

Has any one else used the CDs were they helpful. She said they were about £80 but really helpful

I have really enjoyed natal hypnotherapy - even when I found out I needed to have a c section, I downloaded the specific preparing for a caesarean version. Is lovely and relaxing.

I found this website really calming while I was pregnant - lots of stories of different births, but all told really positively. tellmeagoodbirthstory.com
You can get quite a lot of hypnotherapy downloads from Amazon (I tried the Maggie Howell one, which was also calming), but if you have time from all reports try to find an a actual hypnobirthing course to get the maximum effect.

The natal hypnotherapy ones mentioned by mrsmugoo are about £10 on Amazon.

I used the pregnancy relaxation and birth preparation ones (mine was the vbac preparation version) and found them great.

So much so that I arrived at the hospital almost fully dilated and was surprised when I was told. :) I definitely felt more relaxed and less anxious than for my previous pregnancy/birth.

Good luck :)

I used the natal hypnotherapy one from Amazon mentioned for my DDs. With DS (first birth) I was in agony and freaking out, I was even screaming during contractions in the corridor and had to have pethidine. With my DDs I was calm, I felt in control and while it still hurt it was manageable, I just had gas and air for the pushing stage. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I didn't really like natal hypnotherapy, I find that kind if visualisation meditating quite difficult.

But reading Nicole Croft's Good Birth Companion book made a huge difference, I felt much more informed about how I could influence my labour.

And Ina May Gaskin - the book with all the labour stories in it (normal good labours, counteracts the horror stories everyone likes to go on about).

I also read Ina May's book and think it really helped my confidence too. :)

I didn't do any of the visualisation stuff. I always fell asleep listening to the CD and couldn't remember any of it Blush. I just done the breathing and it still helps.

Ooh yes, breathing deeply (especially breathing out, I sounded like a steam train) helped a LOT. But I knew that from previous yoga classes not from natal hypnotherapy.
