I don't know if this is the right place to post but here goes...i thought I was done with the post partum bleeding a week or so ago but went to the bathroom this morning and (tmi) its all brown when I wipe and mucusy. Should I be concerned or is this normal? Surely cant be a period? Am ebf...anyone else bled this long? Got my 6-8 week check next week so will mention then but just wanted some reassurance in the meantime!

Hi, No i can't really advise you only try to reassure you. I bled for about two and a half weeks but had a small bleed a bit later and i asked my midwife who said it is possible to continue to loose blood week and weeks after birth. My DH (who is an HCP said that brown blood is generally older blood which has already been shed) If you are getting cramps while breast feeding, your uterus is probably still contracting, this can move things along, i.e shift old blood etc.

Apparently it is also possible (although very unusual) to have a period when BF, especially if the breastfeeding is well established and going well.

If you are worried or it becomes heavy, get checked. It also might be worth getting some iron tablets, if you havent got them already.

I hope you are doing o.k and congratulations too.

I bled for 8 weeks with both mine. THe GP said it was quite normal, but sent me for a scan to make sure there wasn't any other problems.

I bled for what felt like ages after dd2's birth. I had lochia for 6w, a few days 'grace', and then I had my menstrual period which also was 6w long.
Baby was deliveres by ELCS and I ff.

I was really worried but didn't show signs of retained products; too late/not enough blood for pph. I stopped bleeding 2 days before a scan date.

I still don't know why. But 18m later I'm okay and I put it down to being 'one of those things'.

Try not to worry, but do mention it at your check Smile

Mine took 16 weeks to stop. Gp said it is unusual but not unheard of to last that long. It is worth mentioning at your check up though.

Well it went and now back this morning! Bit like a period...could it be even though breastfeeding? Got my post natal check this afternoon although seems to be with nurse - shall mention but is period this early even though ebf unheard of? DD starting to go longer between feeds at night (4-5 hours) perhaps that's why?

I bled for 9 weeks, mr dr told me not to do too much and to slow down a bit! Was my second child and I felt great so was carrying on doing lots and walking lots pushing the buggy and carrying baby in sling - I did take it a bit easier for a couple of days (not ,
Like me) and it stopped
