I'm currently 23+5 and am booked for a VBAC2C. I'm also 37. My last section was a failed induction VBAC in dec 2011. The risks are no higher for a VBAC2c than a VBAC1C (I was very surprised to learn this!) The risks of a third section are higher due to scar tissue and an increased risk of bleeding.
My hospital are very pro VBAC. Sweeps from 38 weeks and will try 1 dose of prostin for induction. I went over (40+12) despite 5 sweeps and the prostin did bugger all!. This time the plan is to go to 42 weeks and reassess for section then, I'm refusing any sweeps and induction. They recommend monitoring throughout labour and usually say no to the pool although I have been given the Ok to use the pool if everything goes well as they have waterproof/wireless monitors.
I couldn't face another section recovery so am hoping and praying everything goes well. Does your hospital have a VBAC clinic? they're usually run by the supervisor of midwives and they can go through everything with you. I would ask your midwive to be referred if you can as I found it very informative and it did give me the the confidence to try again.

Remember, they need your consent you don't need their permission. If you want to try a VBAC2C you can.
Good luck with whatever you decide x
