Did your labour with DC2+ start in a similar way to your first?

I'm waiting for DC2 to make an appearance. I had a small piece of plug come away a couple of days ago and everything's looking favourable so I'm expecting another early one. Last time the rest of the plug appeared a few days later so the next day or so would be the equivalent and then into labour the next day.

I know it's silly to 'expect' things to follow that pattern again, even though I'm the same number of weeks and everything, so tell me if your second + labour had the same pattern or not...

I've had friends who had similar first and second labours, but my second was six days later and completely different to my first.

With DS1, my waters went at 38.5 weeks.
With DS2, I had to be induced 15 days overdue.

Wuxiapian - that's what I'm worried will happen to me! Was convinced DC1 would go over and that would make me much less impatient this time around!

Mine were v different. Dc1 had a very stop-start beginning with a long latent phase. Waters broke just prior to pushing.

Dc2 waters went hours before first contraction. V quick labour followed.

Both overdue though. Good luck!

No!

DC1 - started with waters going (no contractions til a few hours later, no show) at 38+5
DC2 - BHs every evening for ages, one evening they didn't settle, she was born a couple of hours later at 40+0. Waters went just before she was born. I had been expecting another early one so felt late to me!

Ooh Vinegar we had the same births!

DD1 came at 37 wks (although I never agreed with dates, more like 39!) waters went at 5am gradually started contracting at lunchtime, she arrived at midnight

DD2 exactly 40 wks on due date, had BH for weeks (teasing!) started properly contracting tea time she arrived 11.45pm, waters went after 1st examination at hospital at 9cm dilated Grin

Too many stories of the first one being early and being made to wait for the second!

I'm getting tonnes of BH and even a couple of full on contractions, but need to get used to the fact it could be weeks and weeks.

39+1 weeks and 37+1 weeks. In both cases my waters broke within 12 hours of finishing up at work. Pre-birth mat leave is apparently not something I am ever going to experience though I can pretty much guarantee that if I became a SAHM, decided to have DC3, I would be two weeks overdue and have to be induced.....

All 5 of my labours have started different and been so different. In fact with DC 5 I wasn't even too sure if I was in labour which was quite embarrassing when I rang the labour ward!

Well I thought labour #2 was starting like #1 yesterday, as up in the early hours of the morning. Called parents to warn them and told DD brother was on the way, only for everything to slow down and stop!

So I guess my 2nd labours going to be nothing like the first...

Dd1 39 plus 5. Latent phase lasting a week. Probably 10 hours active labour. Waterbirth at MLU.
DD2 two day latent phase, 5 hour labour, water birth at home at 39 plus 6

Could still be Braxton hicks, jen. I can understand your angst - you're very close to due date.

I was very angsty with DS2 as I had a threatened per term labour at 28 weeks with him, so, then, of course, I was worried he'd come early - only to keep me waiting an extra 15 days!

I take it you've got your bag ready?

Report
jennimoo · 18/08/2013 14:51

Bags are ready and yesterday put them by the door. The contractions were very painful and some lasted for a full 5* mins so I don't think it was BH. I now feel like the cervix is 'different' so think its just that circumstances (eg my mum calling to check progress as we'd told her to be ready....) slowed then stopped things.

Ds1 contraction started at 5am, waters broke at 5pm and and he finally arrived at 10pm. 39 weeks

Dd waters broke at 10.15pm, contractions started soon after and Dd arrived at 11.11. Bit of a shock!
37 weeks
