Streaming cold three days before c-section :(

I am 37 wks pg with non-ID twins and booked for a c-section on Thursday. Yesterday I started a cold with a slight temperature and streaming, runny nose. I am taking fluids and paracetamol but feeling sorry for myself.

I have the op pre assessment appt with a midwife later on today. What can. Do to shift this cold?

I don't want to give our babies life followed by a cold!!!

Talk to your midwife or consultant about it, they may want to swab you to find out exactly what you have got (this happened to me). But if its a cold there is little that you can do, hopefully the babies are busy building immunity to your cold, and if you can give them some
colostrum as well that can only help!

This happened to me. I'm sorry to say it wasn't much fun. I was lying in theatre, with anaesthesia of course. I could feel the drip down the back of my neck, but dues to anaesthetic I couldn't cough. I really didn't like it.

Is it out of the question to postpone the delivery a few days? Or can you possibly take any medication that would dry up your nose so it doesn't run down your throat say a few hours before you go in?

Sorry to bring bad news here. But, I did feel it kind of spoiled the moment for me at DS2's birth.

Sorry to hear this OP.

Fwiw I had a baby in January and for the week prior to that, I had really bad bronchitis/chest infection. I was actually unable to get out of bed basically, and taking antibiotics which ended up giving me diarrhoea... so stopped them immediately, and then I managed to recover enough to give birth, during which I was Ok - then when I got home, it all started again and I was in bed and on different ABs for another week.

I'm not sure how on earth I had him tbh! I remember standing in the car park after registering him, with the car seat I could barely carry, waiting for a lift home, and being barely able to catch my breath!

I honestly though I was going to die. But I was fine and so was he.

Somehow your body will cope. I hope it is only a little cold and goes away by Thursday.

We are happy to announce the safe arrival of Alexander and Claudia on the 15 August at 1:30pm. Both weighed 3kg.

C section went well but recovery was a bit painful, I am taking my meds! Suffering from terrible trapped wind.

Thank you for all your words of encouragement and advice regarding the cold. Spoke to the midwife and we agreed it was a chill which was making my nose runny and not something in my chest too etc which would have been a bit more concerning. Took regular paracetamol and warm drinks and stayed in bed for a few days. Warm baths helped too. On the morning of the c sec it wasnt quite gone but a few good nose blows gave me comfort and cleared me up at the critical times. Once they were born we had wonderful cuddles in recovery and I even managed to breast feed in tandem for the first 12 hours so hopefully they got some colustrum
