Has anyone agreed to early induction due to a BIG baby?

I know that the received opinion on MN is to resist induction, especially for concerns about big babies, but I wonder whether anyone has gone ahead with such an induction.

I am 38 weeks and they think the baby is already 9lbs. They want to sweep me tomorrow and induce at 39 weeks. My first DC was 9lbs 4oz and my second was 10lbs 2oz and both were long labours with tearing. I am tempted to agree to the induction as if I go to 41 weeks (as I did with DC2) they think the baby could be near on 11lbs and I am terrified of tearing again.

If you agreed to early induction for a big baby I would love to hear how it went.

Hi I had an early induction at 39 weeks due to a big baby he was 9lbs 7oz and I still got a third degree tear. I was injured but my baby was absolutely fine with no problems...and I am so glad I opted for early induction to be honest as I'm sure he would have been at least 10lbs if I'd gone to term and even larger if I'd gone over.

I had a sweep at 38 weeks which started labour. He took a long time coming out but he did eventually and was 9lb1. If I'd left it any longer he definitely would have been delivered by c section, as he got stuck so if he was any bigger there is no way he'd have come out. My ob maintains that a sweep isn't really induction because if you weren't ready then your body wouldn't respond to a sweep. I did end up with various interventions, but not sure it's fair to say they were caused by being induced. And overall I was glad to avoid having a cs.

My friend had an induction at 38 weeks due to them telling her the baby was over 11lbs, and scaring the life out of her..

Her previous DD was 10.5 so it seemed possible.

Her DS was born weighing 7.4!!!

They're not always right.
