Sweep tomorrow...

I have a midwife appointment tomorrow, when I'll be 39+6, and midwife has said that they will offer a sweep if I want one.

I know that if my cervix is still unfavourable it wont work, but if it is will it definitely start things off or is it entirely random?

How many people have had a sweep which has been technically successful in the moment, but then still have nothing happen?

Thanks Xmas Smile

When I was 4 days late I had a sweep around 2pm, by 6pm I started getting twinges, by 9pm I was on the way to hospital and 20 mins after midnight I gave birth to my baby boy, so yes in my case it worked ! Good luck x

I had a sweep and dd2 arrived the next day. I was 40+6 though, so not sure if she would have come anyway. If your cervix is unfavourable the midwife won't be able to do it anyway I don't think. Fingers crossed for you :)

I had a sweep at 41 weeks and DS was clearly too comfy, as he hung on another week Xmas Angry

Having one this time on Thursday at 37+6 as I'm hoping for a vbac, and they want her out sooner. Hopefully it'll work, but honestly, not getting my hopes up!

Oh, and I lost my plug immediately after that sweep, so I thought it had been a good 'un!

Tip- take a pad and wear dark knickers - you will probably bleed.

Thanks for the advice, sounds as though I'm just going to have to live with the uncertainty a bit longer...

Good tip about the underwear though Wink thanks BFC and good luck on Thursday.

I had a sweep on Sunday and plenty of 'show' throughout Monday, bit of a bleed and some period type cramps afterwards.

Nothing happened.

Had my second sweep this afternoon and the mw really gave it some welly, saying, there's no point in just tickling the cervix! It was pretty uncomfortable but hopefully things will get going. I've been having pains and crampsa ever since and little one is really fidgeting about in there!

I'm 40+10 now and really want him out before they induce me on Friday.

Fingers crossed for a show down tonight!!
