Is baby getting ready to make an appearance?

Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I'm a first time mum, so haven't got any experience at all!!

Anyway... For just over the last week I have been getting a lot of discomfort in my lower back (sometimes like period pains and other times quite strong pains) and a lot of shooting pains "down below" (which I am led to believe are the pains of the cervix opening...). I have been feeling quite nauseous, but not actually been sick. I've been getting quite a few pains across front of bump too. Could this mean that baby is getting ready to come, or am I just reading in to things too much?
I'm 36+5.

Thanks guys :) x

Hard to say. Don't sit on me but...I had a similar thing at 37 weeks, DS didn't arrive till 40+5. IMO it's best just to convince yourself that nothing's going to happen for ages yet - waiting and watching every sign is headwrecking.

It sounds like the baby is engaging - doesn't necessarily mean any immediate action, of course, but things are definitely happening! Is it all starting to feel a bit real now? I remember with my first this was the "bloody hell, it's actually happening" stage.

Yeah I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, just wanted to get some different opinions. I'm fully expecting to go over due as my mum did with all her children, and I'm 1 of 6!! The anticipation of it all is killing me!!
Thanks for your advice! :)

Hassled: I definitely think I'm engaging. I had midwife 2 weeks ago and I was 4/5ths then, but I feel as though I've definitely progressed as I'm getting these pains quite a lot every day. It is starting to feel real. Before it all seemed so long away, but now it's quite frightening that in the space of a month my whole life is going to change. For the better of course! I am so excited to get to the "oh my god, the baby is coming" stage. I just don't want the time to drag!!

9 months is so long - and then suddenly you're at the "blimey, I'm going to be a mother stage". The best of luck :)
