Had c section, 10 hours after an abrupt MW told me to get on my side, I did not have any guidance on how to move or not to twist until 3 weeks after and health visitor gave me leaflet....anyway...

I did a big movement and got this intense burning pain on right side of wound...it was intense and crippling and didnt go. The doc said all was fine with wound - no sign of break down etc...no bleeding or leakage.

Four weeks on - wound healed extremely well, no fever or anytihng but after walking 30 mins pain builds up again on right. went to see doc again and he pressed down on the area - now its really really painful again...he said no sign of hernia..maybe a muscle tore?

But if it was muscular would it hurt so much again simply after being pressed on?

I've had 2 C sections. I'm not a medical expert but there are many layers of tissue stitched together that you can't see from the outside. They probably don't like being squished and pulled. But they will heal. If something hurts, don't do it. Rest. Do NOT push a shopping trolley (I've heard from a few C Section mums that was terrible for them).

It's still early on. I got random burning pains for some time, and then a few months down the line comes the itching - oooh that's fun.

Be gentle with yourself. Rest lots. But don't be afraid to go back to doctor if the pain is too much, interfering with your life, or goes on for months - its your body and you know best.

And congratulations.

Thanks so much Large,

The thing that worries me is that for four weeks I have been taking it really really easy my DH has been off for three weeks - and I havent been doing anything strenous - I did push shopping trolly once...

Interesting that you had burning pains too - I assume yours were in different areas?

They do cut through the nerves when they do a cs and the knitting back together or aggravation of these nerves feels like a sharp, stingy, burny pain.

I have had 2xemcs and was told both times round that you heal much better if you get up and about asap. Of course listening to your body and doing as much as you can according to pain levels, energy etc, but not moving around normally, resting in a prone position, not standing tall and walking straight etc means that when you do start to move more normally, you can often feel pain as your body is having to adapt yet again.

I was up and out of bed within a couple of hours both times, discharged after 12hrs and 30hrs respectively and went back to moving around normally, gingerly, but normally.

I did find I had the odd shooty nerve pain and they did occur if I'd been particularly sedentary and then moved around.

I'm not saying leap about all over the place, but cs recovery really is aided by getting back to normal asap.

All that said, if you're worried, seek another opinion. It can take ages for it all to heal and it heals from the inside out so the last layer of skin and tender nerve endings heal last. And with some itchiness and/or numbness and/or shooty nerve type feelings.

I see

It was very odd on my ward - most ladies had really nasty labours followed by emergency sections, I didnt hear one of them in pain like me - and all were much more mobile in terms of walking gingerly but walking - fine....also I didnt hear anyone of them being told to get on thier sides.

It was just me - maybe due to my weight?

For instance one lady came onto the ward at 4 pm ish =- she was just left - the next day at 11am ish she was helped by two care assistants to go to the loo - have catheta removed and she was shuffling round fine, but she had been left the night before...same with another lady...I even heard her saying to her partner - " i have just been lying here trying not to move much"

I can certainly see the sense in moving and getting blood flow and circulatin going etc, but surely they should advise one on how to move!

Very interesting about nerves - no one has mentioned nerves - ie doc or consultant, perhaps thats the problem...

what worries me is - this isnt pain from the op - its from something i did after the op - my poor husband couldnt bear to hear me bash on about the beds - but i found them soo soft and hard to move in, for people who have had an op an cant move well i foun them impossible to manouvre in - YES i LOVED the up and down bit but trying to get out of it was a battle!

by the way I did mobilse the next day but was hindered by this severe pain in my side - and i did immedialty stand tall - and apart from the pain i was walking fine, infact if it hadnt been for the pain in my side i would have been totlaly pain free from the whole thing

If you are having recurrent pain in a very specific area and you are concerned then its not unreasonable for you to ask your doctor again.

I wasn't able to get out of bed for 24 hours post section both times because of complications and honestly that first pain of standing up still haunts me. But I know others who didn't need much pain relief at all. We're all different.

Sorry, that's probably not much help, but it's true - none of us will have had the same post C-section care, experience, pain or after effects.
