Car seats

what age did you use your TWE until?

DD is almost 4.5 & is now FF in her Britax TWE.

She doesn't exceed the 25kg and is 110cm tall. She's recently started complaining she's not comfortable in her seat (she says her bottom gets sore). The harness is always very tight but she does look like she sits quite far forward in the seat despite moving all the way back before tightening up.

I feel she's safer in this than a seat belt seat as it has a 5pt harness and would like to keep her in it as long as possible for that reason.

I am curious when others moved their children out of the TWE and why?

We've tried rear facing but she's so squashed as she has big long legs that it causes more complaints.

As a general rule, I'm all for safety over comfort.

DS 3.4 (and tall so already in 4-5yo clothes) is still rear-facing in his TWE. He doesn't seem to mind the leg-room issue as he just has his legs loosely crossed. On occasions we've needed to put the seat FF I've found it harder to get him comfortable in - the angle seems a bit wrong compared to purely FF seats, so I've been thinking that once he grows out of rear facing/ gets to 4 we'll probably just put him into a high-back booster seat. Once they're tall enough, do you know if a 5-point harness really is safer? I'm assuming that in the event of a crash, either seat belt would keep them in, as long as they're tall enough for it?
So, no help really, but its an issue I've been thinking about too!

p.s. sorry just seen that she is 110cm tall - do you think she might have grown out of the seat? I think when ff the straps need to be equal to or above the shoulders, if they're not could the straps be forcing her downwards/ constricting her? I think by 110cm DS will definitely be in a high-back booster (the earlier seats are only safer as long as they fit, IYSWIM).

that's what I'm wondering if maybe she's too big for it now despite not being over 25kg.

I will check out the strap height today. Thanks for responding!

She hasn't complained at all about being in the seat until now, generally a very easy going child.

I'm also with the 'live with it' when it comes to safety but I do actually think she might be too big for it now.

Anyway, went to look at high back boosters today and I've just ordered a new Britax after looking at Which?

DS is almost out of his baby seat so it's a good enough time for change so he can use the TWE.

Thanks for the input, helped to get some clarity!

DD2 came out of hers ffing at 118cm (though she is leggy) and she was 5.5y.

Should add she came out as her shoulders were above the harness slots not because she had reached the weight limit (my 7.5y isn't even 25kg yet)
