Car seats

What stage car seat for a 2.7 yo weighing just over 17kg?

That's it really, everywhere I have been is saying group 2 but I thought group 1 went up to age 4.

Does anyone have any recommendations, he is tall 105cm.

We can't have ERF, it has to go next to another car seat unless it is group 2 and it needs to be easy to get in and out of the car.

he should stay in his current seat until he reaches 18kgs or his ears are above the back of his seat

p.s. group 1 is from 9-18kgs (the age given is just a guide as the car seats are grouped by weight)

Group 1-2-3 goes from 9 months to 12 years.

even on the 1-2-3 seats the harness is only suitable up to 18kgs unless you get a (quite rare) seat that you can use the harness to a higher weight.

Any idea what that is in pounds?!

ok it really depends on height and weight mainly.

his group 1 is fine as long as he is within the weight limit and his ears/eyes are not aove the back of his seat

there is no point buying a 1-2-3 seat because you can't use the harness on them beyond 18kg anyway.

you could look at the britax 2 way elite or britax xtensafix which both are harnessed up to 25kg

18kg is about 39.6lb

Thanks for the replies.
Our problem is that DS3 is too big for his current seat, a cabriofix. So we were actually looking for a new seat for him.

After trying loads which didn't fit next to DS2's stage 1 Britax (the 2 way elite didn't fit next to it).
The fitter in the next shop we went to thought DS2 looked big in the stage 1 and asked to weigh him. She suggested that with him being so close to the weight limit for the stage 1 we would be better of buying him the next stage seat and putting DS3 into the stage 1. She said the seat belt locking system clicks in at 15kg so DS2 would be fine in a stage 2.
DH thinks I am overthinking things and DS2 is fine in a stage 2. The boys only travel in a car 2-4 times a month.

have you tried the 2 way elite rearfacing? it fits in our car better that way because there is nothing at the back of the seat (iyswim?) the seats kind of jigsaw puzzle together

really my concern would be that a 2.7yr old simply won't sit safely in a high-backed booster. My 5 yr old is still harnessed because in a booster he constantly leans forward or plays with the seatbelt.
