Anyone have a Hi Gear Mojave 5 tent?

Would like to know if it is a good tent, I have checked on UK camping website but there is only one review, all be it they gave it 10/10 but I would like more opinions before I spend out.

We were also looking at the Vango Icarus 500 (i think!) but cant decide which one is better.

We are a family of 4 with one dog.

Many thanks x

i thought it looked canny - i also liked the vango orchy but i understand from reviews the icarus is more favourable though i dont know why. I like you am having a similar quandry. We must have one i can put up alone as dh still not convinced but also one where the big bedroom divides into 2 but i can still reach accross and check on little people should i wish (mine are 2 and 6). Good luck wth your quest

We have one!

We bought it and used it or the first time at Whit.

I think it's great vfm, easy to put up, roomy (we are two adults and two dses). We bought it as a second tent as our Vango Diablo 600 is a bit of a beast when it comes to pitching.

It withstood some horrendous rain and wind at Whit as well.

Only downsides: there was a tiny hole in one of the bedrooms which we only spotted when we were away. The EHU (which we don't have) comes through the middle of the floor and I think that if you didn't have the footprint (we got one - fab) it might let water in on soggy ground.

All in all, very pleased and will be using it again in a few weeks.

whats a footprint?

from my limited camping knowledge,I think it is like a groundsheet you put down first before placing the tent on it.

Is the Hi Gear easy to put up....I would like to stay married

I like the Icarus but I think it is because there are so many good reviews available for it.

the hi gear comes with poles to put up the canopy, the vango doesnt and you would need to buy them extra. the leaflet in the go outdoors shop as you go in has a 15% off voucher on tents till sunday so another 15% off whatever you get. I think id be tempted with the hi gear tbh and will drag my dh to see it on sat.

Went to bed early last night so didn't reply.

The footprint is basically a tarpaulin the shape of your tent which you put under the tent so that you keep it clean. It's fab. We don't have one for the Vango and have spent many an hour scraping mud off the bottom of the tent and it also seems to get on the upper bit as well.

The Hi Gear is easy to pitch.

I would go to Go Outdoors and get in the tents. Lie down in the bedrooms! That's what we did and just felt that the Mojave had a really roomy living area.

£150 is a bargain. We paid £199.

it is thursday the 9th in our brochure thingy for stockton ontees that says all tents 15% off with this voucher so you coudl get it for £127.50 if they do it at your local store

bargain then!!! So who are Hi Gear then and are they a good make for tents? The tent is apparantly rrp £280 but that seems quite overpriced doesnt it?

We are off to look at it on Sunday and we will all lie down in it (may have to bribe dh though!)

Defo getting footprint (now ive read up on them) and thinking of getting a carpet for it too.

Does the Mojave have one big bedroom with a dividied curtain like the Icarus?

And if anyone else has a Hi Gear tent what do they think of it?

No. It's two separate 'sacks' (best description I can think of). One of them is quite big tho' and I think you could use that as a bedroom for two parents plus two dcs and then the smaller one for all your stuff.

Happy tent shopping!

the mojave looked good today in the shop but yes 2 seperate rooms which spoilt it for us. Still like the orchy asit had curtain divider room and its looking most favourable at the moment . The kalahari (the 8 is a metre narrower but still same length) was far to big and the icarus wasntr on display to know how their bedrooms were. The guy said tunnel tents were not as strong in wind which also put me off the icarus now. There was no air condiotining upstairs inthe shop so basically dh got a radgey on and we didnt stay long. The colorado hi gear 6 was masooove in a we could never get a pitch way.

Hi,

Hi Gear tents areactually rebranded Gelert tents. The Hi Gear Mojave 5 is actually the Gelert Lakesbury 5, and at £149 it is a bargain.

(We bought one for 199 which I thought was a good price at the time.)

We went to Go Outdoors today and they didnt have the Hi Gear Mojave out on display so bit dissapointed.

They did have the Vango Icarus out but none in stock (that will be because of all the good reviews it has been getting!)

Anyway we settled on the Wild Country Homestead 52 as it looked a good sturdy tent. We put it up without too much f-ing and threats of divorce, it took about 30 odd minutes but reckon this will be quicker next time. It came down easy and fitted back in the bags provided

I was a bit wary of buying this tent as I hadnt heard of it but it has good reviews and I am now very excited and looking forward to our camping holiday!

our go outdoros was tuther way - mojave on display but no icarus. Did the icarus look good/ bad?

Icarus looked okay, the curtain between the bedrooms was good. Would say it would only fit 4 people though not 5 as it was stated.

The living area was not that big though. It looked a good tent for weekends away, and the stitching seemed pretty good (I had a good look at all the seams!)

Same for the orchy 6, would say that would only sleep 6 and there didnt really seem to be that much bigger than the Icarus.

was the lovinv space about same as orchy to icarus? i want an icarus but i dont want that green colour - i want the dark blue back with the bright blue rich front

It did seem to be, maybe the Orchy was a little bigger but to my eye they kinda looked the same. It was the blueone they had on show, tis a nice colour and the bedrooms did seem darker - ideal for getting LO's to sleep.
