Camping

Completetly self-indulgent thread asking for help to find a weekend tent :-)

I have just convinced dh that we need a weekend tent as our lovely vermont l takes about an hour to put up completely which makes a 1 nighter less appealing

I want a tent that has min 2 bedrooms, preferably a tunnel as it needs to be tall enough for my 6'4" dh to stand in. A SIG would be nice but not essential. Max £200.

I could of course just have a look myself but its so much more fun doing it this way

I better get some bloody thanks for all this lot. My poor DC are being neglected while I post details of tents out into cyber space, to a complete stranger

who isn't even here

I tell you the commitment to camping threads just isn't what it was last year.

mind you, there is something quite therapeutic about talking to one's self about tents.

I like the Vango Orchy (in the laurel, not the pink). It has a sig, that lowers at the doors so you don't keep tripping over it.

I'm not sure if you can stand up in the bedroom section though

If you prefer the comfort and security the canvas hybrid, the Orchy also comes in a poltcotton and is renamed the Sumatra.

Moving back to the colorado

now this was a front runner in my top 5 w/e tunnel tents of 2008.

I particularly like the zip out and move front panel, so you can as a family be fully enclosed should the weather be inclement, but on bright sunny days, move it back to create a large front porch, or remove altogether.

it has no sig though

Thank you Slubber
That was the most facinating lecture I've attended in years...I've rarely been camping and never needed a tent but am quite tempted by your sales pitch...

Thank you Floria. I was quite happy there for a while myself.

hana, I quite like the Idaho. iirc it was v popular as a w/eer last year. The bedroom end does get quite short at the end. Not sure if dudty's 'normos dh would be able to climb into his jimmyjammies in there.

And where is dusty............

Fascinating Slubberdegullion and very professionally done!

You actually made me laugh out loud so that the kids suspected I was not buttering toast.

We have never camped before but are going in May and July, just locally.

We bought our first tent at the weekend and I can hardly wait to get it and fight with Dh over how to put it up.

It's a Coleman Big Cypress and I got it new for a tad over £100!

I've entered a sordid world of self inflating air beds, storm kettles and sporks haven't I?

sorkycake, I'm glad you enjoyed it. My RL friends are much less receptive when I start waffling on about tents.

I keep wondering what it would be like working in a big camping store. I think it would be heaven, apart from the odd person complaining about a leaking seam no one is going to get irate are they? And all those camping gadgets to organise.

The big cypress looks like a great tent, and what a bargain. Yes you absolutely have entered the world of storm kettles, particularly if you come and talk kit with the mn camping fraternity .

duststar....I think you have forgotton about this thread, but I have not!
Whilst sitting on the loo this morning and perusing the Khyam catalogue I spotted

The Khyam Wayfarer

now it is £100 over your budget BUT it erects in 4 fraeking minutes amazing!
and if the spec is right then each of the (2)bedrooms are 170 wide which is pretty big for a 2 berth inner.

Looks nice and tall all the way round

and

you can have a carpet.

v nice tent
